My Story

1943 to 2007
aged: 63
From: Banstead

Shirley passed away peacefully with her family at her side on 21st April 2007.

Shirley was only 63 years of age.

Sadly Shirley became ill and with cancer and fought very hard to battle the illness as she did not want to be departed from her loving family.

Shirley was the 4th child born to Daisy and Wally.
Born on 16th may 1943 in Kilburn, Shirley grew up with her brother, Billy and Sisters, Eileen, Marie and Carol.

At 15 she met Dennis. They courted for 2 years and married on 4th June 1960.

Dennis was a Coalman and Shirley worked as a Soft Furnishings Cutter so money was a bit tight in those days and there first bed was held up with Baked Bean tins! And one particular evening a tin of those beans had to be used for their dinner!

Shirley and Dennis moved home many times until they settled in their current home in Banstead, a lovely bungalow aptly named “Shirleys Den”

They have 3 children, Stephen, Paul and Shelly.

They have 10 Grandchildren, Serena, Stevie, Paul, Charlene, Bradley, Jade, Louis and Tamzin, Harriett and Lauren,
and two Great Granddaughters, Lucy Shirley and Chloe.

Shirley had many friends but was particularly close to her Eileen’s “girls” Niece, Wend, Bev and Shau and their husbands and children. Her Eileen sadly passed away in July 1992 and she was very close to her and vowed to always keep in touch and look out for Elieen’s girls.

As we all know, Shirley was very house proud and she took particular pride in herself. She always looked amazing. We will always know her for her red hair and the temper to match ! Shirley loved life, she loved socializing and a good old dance to her favourite songs by Tom Jones and Tina Turner!

Shirley had a unique way with people and made friends easily. She loved unconditionally and we could all go to her for comfort, advice and love. Her well known phrase in times of trouble or upset was “come and have a chat, a cup of tea and that will soon sort you out !”
Shirley fought very had to stay with us and if she had any choice she would still be with us today

Shirley is sadly missed and we have lost a Wife, Mum, Sister, Auntie, Nan and a Friend.

Rest in Peace Shirley, we all love you and are in our thoughts all of the time. God bless and sweet dreams.xxxxxxxxx
